Description

Have you always wanted to join a book club, but couldn’t find the time? Tired of being locked in your house and miss your book club friends? The Fulton County Library System has a new online option for you!

The online book club is a private moderated online forum where community members discuss books and network with each other. Members participate according to their schedule – day or night.  The group will spend approximately two months on each book, so there is plenty of time to read.

The next session of the book club will start on May 27, 2021. Club members typically read two chapters per week, so you can join at any time without falling behind.

Sign up at www.pbc.guru/fultonlibraries to join the group for the next book discussion, The Leavers by Lisa Ko.

The Leavers is a poignant novel that addresses several critical societal issues, including immigration, transracial adoption, and childhood trauma. While it was written 4 years ago, we see evidence of discrimination against Asians that is also quite relevant today. The author Emily Raboteau of Searching for Zion writes a descriptive review:

A moving mother/son story and welcome contribution to immigrant literature. In writing about Polly and her son Deming, Ko captures one family’s unique experience of becoming American while also exposing the loss of status, economic desperation, physical endangerment, and psychological grit of the undocumented worker as well as the alienation, double consciousness, mobility, and comparative access of the first generation.

There is no cost to participate.  Free eBooks, books and audiobooks are available for patrons of The Fulton County Library System.
