America250 Lecture: The American Revolution: A Watershed for Women?

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Milton Branch

Description

The fourth lecture in the Milton Library's America250 celebration will be led by Dr. Mary Cain, Associate Professor of History from Agnes Scott College.

During the War for Independence, American women were active supporters of the patriot cause. This talk will consider women’s political awareness and their many contributions to the revolutionary effort, including homefront management, wartime domestic production, and–crucially–maintaining steady boycotts of British goods. We will explore the many ways that women’s work advanced the independence project for the nation, and ask the question of whether that work also served to promote women’s liberation.

Join us as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in our year long look at the American Revolution.
