Cryptids of Georgia: Plat Eye People, Boo Hags and Wampus Cat

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Northside Branch

Description

Plat Eye People have been sighted along the coast of Georgia, primarily in the Gullah-Geechee communities.  Legend says they are ghosts that have the ability to shape shift and can appear as an animal or a human.  It is also said they could either be spirits of improperly buried humans or spirits that are protecting a buried treasure.

In the same area, Boo hags are creatures that are not physically present, but are believed to be spirits that steal life force from sleeping victims.  Folklore suggests ways to protect oneself, such a placing brooms or salt near doors or painting window frames "Haint Blue" to ward them off.

In the mountains of North Georgia it is told that there is a half-dog, half-cat creature that can run erect or on all fours.  It’s rumored to be seen just after dark or right before dawn. It is said that the Wampus Cat is a howling, evil creature, with yellow eyes that can supposedly pierce the hearts and souls of those unfortunate enough to cross its path, driving them to the edge of sanity.

We will explore these topics with videos and other resources. Do they really exist? You decide!
