Central Library

Description

Bonita Martin joins Central Artist Corner as a resident of the EmpowerHER Artist Residency program, a campaign in celebration of women in art presented by the Fulton County Library System and Fulton County Arts and Culture.

About Bonita Martin:

Bonita Martin is a self-taught figurative sculptor from Alexandria, Virginia, who currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia... Inspired by intimate, often overlooked moments of everyday life, Martin’s work explores themes of presence, resilience, and mental wellness, highlighting both personal challenges and quiet triumphs. She finishes her original pieces using acrylics, waxes, and gold leaf, and selectively casts works in bronze composite and other materials.

Artist Statement:

"I am a figurative sculpture artist working primarily with water-based clay and polymer clay, creating expressive representations of African American women and men. My work centers on the face, posture, and subtle gestures as carriers of lived experience, strength, vulnerability, memory, and quiet resilience..."
