This list includes the most frequently banned or challenged books from 2017-2021 from the ALA top 10 banned books lists, linked as the top resource. It also contains Mexican-American Studies books banned by Arizona's now overturned 2010 HB 2281 Law, which deliberately and systematically aimed to dismantle cultural representation in the curricula of the Tucson Unified School District.

The lists are based on information from media stories and voluntary reports sent to OIF from communities across the U.S. The Top 10 lists are only a snapshot of book challenges. Surveys indicate that 82-97% of book challenges – documented requests to remove materials from schools or libraries – remain unreported and receive no media. Show less
